Walking on Exmoor

The Coleridge Way

The Coleridge Way is a 36 mile walking route through the stunning Somerset countryside of the Quantock Hills, the Brendon Hills and Exmoor National Park: a landscape that inspired Coleridge to produce some of his best known work.

The walk, from Nether Stowey to Porlock, can be completed over three or four consecutive days, making it ideal for a short break. www.coleridgeway.co.uk. We are situated just off the Porlock to Wheddon Cross section, the perfect start or finish location.

The Two Moors Way

The Two Moors Way is a long-distance walking route between Ivybridge on the southern edge of Dartmoor and Lynmouth on the North Coast of Exmoor, comprehensively way marked except on the open moorland sections. It has a total length of 102 miles (163 km), making it an ideal week's walk.

The Way links the two National Parks of Exmoor and Dartmoor, and crosses both of them north-south. Not surprisingly, it passes through landscape of exceptionally high quality. Not only does this include the high moorland of some of the Dartmoor and Exmoor sections, but also the deep and wooded valleys of the moorland edges and between the moors, un-spoilt rural scenery with a remote and tranquil feel difficult to find elsewhere in modern times. Walking mostly not difficult, but one or two strenuous stretches; some unwaymarked open moorland requiring navigational skills.

The South West Coast Path

The South West Coast Path National Trail - 630 miles of superb coastal walking. From Minehead on the edge of the Exmoor National Park to the shores of Poole Harbour in Dorset it is the best way to enjoy the wonderful coastal scenery, wildlife and heritage.

The Tarka Trail

Over 30 miles of the Tarka Trail is available to cyclists between Braunton and Meeth, using the old railways of North Devon. Passing through the largely unspoilt countryside as it was described by Henry Williamson in his classic novel ‘Tarka the Otter’, first published in 1927.

The Exmoor Perambulation

Reborn as an annual event on Exmoor in 1983, the Perambulation is still growing in popularity. The walk is open to everyone, providing the opportunity to take part in an integral part of Exmoor’s history.
